Content Guide
Content ideas, posting schedule, and tips for maximizing engagement and growth in your Backstaged community.
What types of content should you post?
Your fans are dying to see the authentic, unfiltered side of you, not just the polished version you show to the public. In your Backstaged community, fans appreciate the raw, unedited, and unpolished content that’s not really suited for other platforms. Whether it’s casual selfie videos, unmixed demos, or other rough behind-the-scenes content, this kind of personal connection is exactly what your community members love.
Take advantage of your existing content
You probably have a treasure trove of unreleased songs, demos, voice memos, and other gems that haven’t seen the light of day. Your Backstaged community is the perfect opportunity to share this content you’ve already made but haven’t had the right platform to share or monetize it on.
Content ideas
Here’s a list of content ideas to help you build and maintain a strong connection with your fans, making sure they continue to stay subscribed and excited to be part of your inner circle:
-
Your fans always love to hear these rough cuts and early versions of your songs, as they offer a unique behind-the-scenes look into your music and creative process that can't be found anywhere else.
-
Tease your fans with short exclusive previews of your new upcoming tracks or work-in-progress songs.
-
Take your fans on a virtual tour of your studio and showcase your creative workspace, equipment, instruments, and the environment where your music comes to life.
-
Break down how you made a specific song, share early versions of it, and explain the creative process and inspiration behind the song and how you came up with the idea.
-
Record a vlog and take your fans through a day in your life. Even if you think it's boring, your fans are eager to learn what your life is like. Talk about your hobbies, favorite books, movies, inspirations, or some of your other passions and interests.
-
Show the creative process by sharing raw footage of you and your team working on new tracks, experimenting with different sounds, and refining your music.
A 30-minute raw recording of a studio session filmed from a single angle might not seem that exciting to you, but this is the exact kind of content your fans would love to see. And the best part? It doesn't require any extra effort or time from you.
-
Introduce the key players in your creative process—producers, fellow band members, or frequent collaborators. Share their roles, how you met, and how they help your music and vision come to life.
-
Open up about your journey as an artist. Discuss how you discovered your passion for music, chose your stage name, or overcame challenges in your career. These stories build a deeper connection with your fans which they love.
-
Start a podcast to discuss your creative journey, artistic inspirations, industry experiences, and life in general. Use it as a platform to engage and connect with your audience on a more personal level, share your thoughts and reflections, talk with fellow artists, collaborators, or close friends, and explore topics that resonate with your fans.
-
Document your life on the road. Share the highs and lows of touring, from the crowds and performances to the behind-the-scenes challenges. This content gives fans a fuller picture of your life as an artist, and you can show them the part of being an artist that they don't usually get to see.
-
Host live or pre-recorded Q&A sessions where you answer fan questions about your music, creative process, or personal life. This interactive type of content creates a stronger and more personal relationship with your fans, which makes them feel heard and appreciated.
-
Offer your members early access or exclusive items like limited-edition vinyls, posters, or exclusive merchandise. This adds tangible value to their membership and allows you to capitalize fully on this key demographic.
-
Show the less glamorous, but equally important, parts of your work, like preparing for a show, managing your schedule, or dealing with creative blocks. This transparency can be inspiring and relatable, and helps your fans feel closer to you.
-
Arrange occasional meetups where you can interact directly with your fans. It could be as simple as a casual backstage hangout at a show, giving your fans a chance to connect with you on a personal level.
-
Create a song, artwork, or video inspired by fan suggestions. This not only engages your audience but also makes them feel like a part of your creative journey, and makes them feel very valued.
-
Share creative challenges you're undertaking, whether it's writing a song in a day or experimenting with a new genre. Encourage your fans to try similar challenges and share their results.
Posting schedule: How often should you post?
Try to spend 1-2 hours per month
Maintaining an active presence in your community doesn’t require a rigid posting schedule. In fact, spending just 1-2 hours per month interacting with and creating content for your community is often enough to keep your members satisfied.
Aim for flexibility
Your community should enhance your creative process, not become a source of stress.
Instead of committing to a fixed schedule like releasing a new song every Friday, aim for flexibility by posting whenever you want, avoiding the pressure and unrealistic expectations of a rigid timeline. This approach also prevents disappointing fans if you miss a deadline and makes their membership feel less transactional.
Post content at your own discretion based on your creative flow and schedule. Make sure to communicate with your members about what they can expect from you, and let them know you’re dedicated to providing value and engaging with them, even if the posting schedule and content types vary.
Be patient
Building a strong community doesn’t happen overnight—it takes time and requires patience. Gradually building relationships allows for deeper connections and more trust which leads to long-term stability.
Rushing the process can result in burnout or an unstable foundation. By allowing growth to happen at a steady pace over time, you’re creating a solid base for lasting success and more loyal members.
